What are you doing here … (write your name in the space)

Prophet Elijah had just show cased the power of God and the anointing on his life by challenging and then killing the prophets of Baal as proof of the fact that his own God, the Almighty is the only true God.

When Queen Jezebel their spiritual leader hears of it she promises to reduce Elijah to the same fate. The prophet runs for his dear life and hides himself far away from the city. He is depressed and suicidal. He wants to end it all.

What a paradoxical reaction just after the Mount Carmel demonstration of God’s power.

God comes to him and asks him a very simple but profound question;

“What are you doing here Elijah?”

Has God now changed? Has He ceased to be the same God who answers by fire?

Today this same God is asking some of us; “what are you doing here my daughter/ my son?

What are you doing in that depression, talented young lady?

What are you doing in that suicide idealization, gifted young man?

What are you doing in that sickness and infirmity, daughter of the Most High?

What are you doing in that fear and uncertainty, wise old leader?

Have you forgotten how I showed up for you in the past?

Have you forgotten how we broke protocol in the past?

What are you doing here Elijah?

An excerpt from one of my yet to be published books.

care 2No matter how many people hate you, there is always someone who cares about you. His name is Jesus.

The area of town where you live can determine your outlook to that town. Your station in life can easily influence the way you see life itself. It ought not to be so. Life is bigger than your individual position and the town is bigger than the street in which you live. If you walk down the street and turn left, you are likely to discover the other face of your town. Life has many faces and the one you live in should never be the only contributing factor in building your opinion about life.

There are many nice people in that quarrelsome family next door;there is a sweet, quiet and well-behaved girl in that prostitute infested street; there is a nice lady behind that heartless harlot who just killed her own child; there is a gentleman in that drug addict who raped your daughter. The question is will you look deeper? Will you see the beauty behind the apparent ugliness? Is there a savior in Rahab? Will you help Rahab bring out the best that is hidden behind the ugly?

This book is intended to create awareness, a consciousness in men and women of our day about the importance of taking a second Look before giving the label. How many people have we labeled “hopeless” just to find out later that they carried a treasure within them? We are supposed to have the heart of our Lord Jesus Christ who sat at a well in a hostile territory waiting to have a closer look at a woman the Samaritan community has branded “hopeless.” Only then can we bring out the evangelist that is hidden behind the emotionally unstable woman; the one who has been jumping in and out of every bed in town. My prayer is that this book would create a paradigm shift in us as concerns branding and labeling individuals in our communities. It is my humble desire to see people throw off the veil that has labeled them, in order to enjoy the life Christ died for them to have.

IT’S YOURS FOR THE ASKING

IT’S YOURS FOR THE ASKING

Daughter, why are you in such a mess?

Lord, that is all I managed to get

Better still, I deserve all this stress

For long ago I messed up so bad.

No my child, you deserve better

And know I keep no record of mess

Once you cry to me for help.

Son, you are so high on drugs.

Lord, Daddy left and mummy fell to drinking

I feel so lonely all the time

Oh, if I had some loving father

To tell of pleasant times and weather.

Come into my arms sweet little thing

And be loved of a father who cares indeed.

Why are you so worried my beloved?

Lord, I staked it all, I lost it all

I gave in much, I got but little

I lost the hope, I lost the joy.

Believe, believe, sweet gentle lady

And you will see my joy in the morning

Then you will bear my glory to many.

What ails thee my dear dear friend?

Lord, you gave me work to do

I tried but couldn’t make it through

Where are the checks and where are the cheers?

It was never by might or power

Without me you will labor without favor

And rest assured, all I have is yours for the asking.

Quote

Just as you are…

Just as you are

When you are busy planning the future, you will not have time to regret the past or be depressed about the present.

The past is one monster that will not retreat just because you decided not to face it.

When you can’t face your past, you have not been healed from it.

When you come to God, do not try to hide your true feelings and reality from Him. He already knows what you are trying to hide.

come to Him without your masks and make-up. He loves you all the same.

God is that gentleman who takes His lady out for a date night without bothering about her make-up or non.

When God becomes your closest neighbour

Are you feeling lonely? Have family and friends abandoned or rejected you? Are you unmarried, childless or far away from home in a foreign land? Do you lack someone with whom you can share your joy, sorrows, fears and dreams? God knows all about it. Perhaps He even permitted it in order to get your attention. I’ve been there too. I have lived a situation whereby everybody in my environment wanted nothing to do with me. They were either too ashamed or too ignorant to identify with my affliction. My family was far away and I felt very lonely; alone in the crowd. At such a time, I learned to draw very close to my heavenly Father. He became my closest neighbor.

That is why I have developed a particular prayer language whereby if you hear me praying without seeing me, you may think I’m having a conversation with an intimate friend. He is my intimate friend indeed. It is something like this; “Daddy, I’m so hungry I can’t bear it any longer, what do you think about my new dress? I feel jealous of that lady, help me overcome it, do you know that I’m angry with you for letting me fall ill? I don’t like Mary and she just gets on my nerves. What do we do about it?” When you have gone through periods in your life when you had no one to talk to, you learn how to treat God as husband, friend, family, boss, etc. There were times when I wanted to be hugged and kissed and all I had was God, I wanted to be offered a bunch of roses but all I got was God, so I learned to take Him as my lover and spouse and what have you. This brought me to closeness with God which is really blessing me today. I have learned to depend on God alone so I’m no longer afraid to be rejected, so I am not afraid to be frank and honest in my opinion. I can boldly say today, I and God are majority.

Do not get me wrong; I still need my fellow humans, but if for some reason they become a source of trouble to me, I can easily send them off and turn to my God. What about you? Are you so keen on being surrounded by friends to the point where you  compromise just to have some around? Who is your closest neighbor and why? Do not be afraid to say “no” to the wrong company. You will always find a better friendship in God.
