Experiences and our faith

self doubt

One of the things that pose an obstacle to our faith is our past experiences.

You’ve seen it happen before. You’ve been through that hell before.

Now, when God tells you it could be different this time you find it hard to believe because you are haunted by past experiences.

God is always doing a new thing and it is in our own interest to key in to whatever He is doing and not stay prisoners of our past experiences.

Yes, we unavoidably learn from past experiences and they teach us wisdom. But we must never become too wise for God to handle.

When it comes to trusting God, we must let go of any thing that is a hindrance to our faith, including the fear of “it could happen again” in the negative sense of the that expression.

Now, be careful not to fall into the same ditch again, but be careful also not to miss your miracle because of that old ditch.

Get out of that rut you call “my experiences” and live again.

Shalom, Gretiana.

No matter what happens…

Admire people who have been through a lot and still keep their head up. Head Up! Even though you are going through a tough time. This is a must attitude during healing journey. Image credit : Pixabay – PublicDomainPictures

I choose to walk away

evidence building 3

I choose to walk away

Away from the past, its hurts, pains and shame

I choose to walk away from the choices I made in the past

Choices that seemed so logical and beneficial

I opt for change, the willingness to embrace the future I do not yet see

I choose to part with my own understanding, the one that let me into that mess

I will depart from myself, the self that I trusted but got disappointed.

I’ve discovered a new me, a me that so pleases me

And I won’t let anything take that away from me.

What are you doing here … (write your name in the space)

Prophet Elijah had just show cased the power of God and the anointing on his life by challenging and then killing the prophets of Baal as proof of the fact that his own God, the Almighty is the only true God.

When Queen Jezebel their spiritual leader hears of it she promises to reduce Elijah to the same fate. The prophet runs for his dear life and hides himself far away from the city. He is depressed and suicidal. He wants to end it all.

What a paradoxical reaction just after the Mount Carmel demonstration of God’s power.

God comes to him and asks him a very simple but profound question;

“What are you doing here Elijah?”

Has God now changed? Has He ceased to be the same God who answers by fire?

Today this same God is asking some of us; “what are you doing here my daughter/ my son?

What are you doing in that depression, talented young lady?

What are you doing in that suicide idealization, gifted young man?

What are you doing in that sickness and infirmity, daughter of the Most High?

What are you doing in that fear and uncertainty, wise old leader?

Have you forgotten how I showed up for you in the past?

Have you forgotten how we broke protocol in the past?

What are you doing here Elijah?

“Goodbye my beloved”

With eyes full of tears

I stare into the distance

Wondering how this could be,

I search in his eyes for a glimmer of hope.

But all I see is darkness and void

I look for a string onto which I can hold

There is none, ‘cause it was never meant to be.

Then I resign myself to the fate that is

And with a sign that spells my deepest anguish

I look into his eyes and dare say

“Goodbye my friend, my beloved,

You belong to the past I long to forget,

There is no place for you in my future”.

BRING IT TO AN END AND START A NEW PAGE: I came across this and thought it could bless you.

Just as you are…

Just as you are

When you are busy planning the future, you will not have time to regret the past or be depressed about the present.

The past is one monster that will not retreat just because you decided not to face it.

When you can’t face your past, you have not been healed from it.

When you come to God, do not try to hide your true feelings and reality from Him. He already knows what you are trying to hide.

come to Him without your masks and make-up. He loves you all the same.

God is that gentleman who takes His lady out for a date night without bothering about her make-up or non.

THE GRACE TO OVERTAKE

When a year comes to an end and we get ready to begin a new year, it is a time for reflection. This reflection might be based on the successes and failures of the past year or an entire life time. For some, the conclusion is overwhelmingly positive while for others, there is really nothing to write home about. Some people feel like just throwing the towel, pulling up a white flag and quitting the fight. They have toiled but their efforts seem to be in vain.

No effort is ever in vain; even your mistakes and failures are a lesson to the future generation. Remember Thomas Edison.

For me, the past year has not been an easy one. I have walked down the same road most of you have trodden. There have been moments of joy but also times of great distress. I have cried and I have laughed. Sometimes, I have had to give my shoulders for others to cry on but at other times, I badly needed someone to offer me theirs. I gave encouraging words to people on some days but on others I did not feel like getting out of bed myself. But in all this I kept my eyes focused on God who gives life to the dead and calls those things that are not as if they were (Romans 4:17). Then I remember that I have been blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3). Even if I do not yet see them, I have God’s word that it shall come to pass.  I am alive and I have Jesus on my side: I still have all my chances.

In God’s kingdom, overtaking is permitted for those who are smart enough to take it by force. I might be the last in the race, but don’t give up on me yet because the race is not yet over. All I need is the grace for speed and acceleration. (Remember Perez-Genesis 38:29). I can still pursue, overtake and recover all that I have lost or failed to achieve provided I encourage myself in the Lord (1 Samuel 30:6, 8).

As we look forward to the unfolding of this year 2014, let us look forward to greater achievements in the future. And if we must look back, it should not be with regret but to gather momentum because we have on us an exceeding grace for acceleration, speed and overtaking.

Deal with it

THE LABEL

What is your label? What does the world call you? What is your reaction to it? Have you settled for it or do you have the guts to walk out on it? The Samaritan woman in John chapter 4 had a turn around. She said “no” to the label of emotional instability when she listened to and believed Jesus’ words. Mary Magdalene rejected the etiquette ‘possessed woman’ when she ran to Jesus for help. When Jesus showed up in the life of the woman at the synagogue, the label ‘bent double’ became a thing of the past.

God knows what label the world has given you. Maybe they call you barren, prostitute, accursed, bastard, etc. Rest assured that this is not what your Daddy calls you. However, He is looking to see the attitude you will put on as regards this appellation. Are you mean or complacent enough to add your signature to it or will you run to Him for a change of name? The choice is yours. However, it is not what the world says about you that matters. It is what your Creator says. He formed your inner parts. He knows the gifts and potential that is hidden behind your weaknesses and failures. He alone is qualified to label you and I assure you that if you knew what He thinks about you, you will shout for joy.

VOICES FROM THE PAST

Who are those voices speaking from your past? They know too much about you, your family lineage, where you were born, whom you grew up with, what you ate, wore; in short, a bit too much about you. Basing their intentions on the few details they have about you, they think they are qualified to name your babies. Luke 1:58-59 says the neighbors of Elizabeth and Zachariah thought of a better name for John the Baptist because they thought they knew so much about this family. Such people think you should marry X and not Y, go to such a school and live in such a house. They know what type of services your bank account can purchase.

Some of these voices are even crueler. They try to use your past failures, errors and weaknesses to humiliate, mock ridicule and limit you, keeping your head permanently bowed down. But I have good news for you. Your heavenly Father never consults your past to determine your future. He does not even consult your former neighbors, friends and acquaintances because their report about you will be tinted by prejudice, jealousy and blatant wickedness. (The heart of man is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). God has chosen to use the base things of the world for His glory. Do not let them stop you. Tell the devil to get behind you because the dream in you is too big to be killed by some faint voices from the past.

Child of God, if you still keep relationships with such voices from you past, make up your mind to break away from them this very moment. Get connected to people who can see beyond your past, who can mentor your dream or help you dream up a glorious future. Refuse to be dominated by that voice from your past.

WHO DO YOU RESEMBLE?

                                          (Genesis 1:26-27)

We are created in God’s image. We are created to be a reflection of God’s personality (holiness, love, power, peace, joy etc.). We are not created in the devil’s image, so we must never be a reflection of his nature (sin, poverty, weakness, fear wickedness etc.).

The next time you are walking down the street, ask yourself whose kingdom you are advertising. Do onlookers see the glory of God in you or the shame and reproach of the devil? I have learned one lesson, a very important one. Never let people read your problems on your face. No matter what you are going through, ask of God the Grace to have a ‘clean front’. You are created to glorify God, refuse to be a mobile billboard for the devil’s publicity.
